Product Description
The Edinburgh Castle – Heritage Tartan Axminster Stair Runner

A rich and characterful woven Axminster stair runner, The Edinburgh Castle draws inspiration from classic Scottish tartans and the timeless grandeur of its namesake. Featuring a bold, multi-tonal check in deep reds, forest greens, navy and warm neutrals, it brings warmth, depth and unmistakable heritage style to any staircase.

The structured plaid pattern creates a strong visual rhythm, giving each step definition while adding a sense of tradition and permanence. It’s a design that feels equally at home in period properties, country houses, and interiors that embrace classic British character with confidence.

Woven using traditional Axminster construction, The Edinburgh Castle combines heritage craftsmanship with modern durability. The wool-rich blend offers warmth, comfort and resilience underfoot, while the dense woven structure ensures the pattern remains crisp and vibrant even in high-traffic areas.

Designed for heavy domestic and contract use, it works beautifully as a stair runner, hallway carpet or feature rug — delivering timeless style, durability and a strong sense of place.

PLEASE READ ALL THE WAY TO THE END BEFORE MAKING YOUR ORDER

How to order

As a rule of them and for guidance only;
Just count your steps and order accordingly
1 step will require 0.5m length of runner to cover it.

Over 6m long and your runner may come in 2 sections for ease of transport.
It will make NO difference to the fitting however, if you want it in one section please contact us before ordering. It takes a little longer and costs a little more.

Please note well

Pictures displayed are a guide only, as colours can vary dependent on your monitor/tablet/phone - we highly recommend you request a sample piece before you order to make sure you are happy - we send them, out free.

This is a stair runner. Therefore the ends are not whipped as they will need to be cut to be fitted. If you want a floor runner with whipped and taped ends then please get in touch.

If you need to know the termonology of a staircase to help talk in flooring language then go here: https://fenstoncarter.co.uk/blogs/news/the-anatomy-of-a-staircase-and-staircase-terminology

Fitting

A straight faux sisal runner can be fitted yourself. Here is a great video that explains how to do that: https://youtu.be/YlXagjGdv8w

How to measure for a stair runner

Winding stairs, platforms and landings

A straight runner won't fit on a curved or winding stair. You need a special piece cut for that. You can order these on the left but please be aware we are going to need a template sent to us in the post in order for us to cut them to the correct size.

On a final note

On a final (final!) note, please be aware that a lot of time, cost and care goes into creating your runner. Regardless of where you purchased it from, if you have bought it on a whim with the intention of sending it back if it isn’t quite right, We urge you to reconsider, cancel your order and just request some samples so you can be sure of your purchase. We send them out free.

This is a bespoke, hand-made item and we are not liable to accept returns. Please make yourself aware of the legal guidance under UK law: https://www.gov.uk/accepting-returns-and-giving-refunds.  However, we will accept returns and issue refunds on runners of 50cm to 60cm width and over 4m in length.
