Jute herringbone runner with a whipped edge hand-made to order in Finsbury London

Every so often a project comes along that reminds us why we love what we do — and this was one of them.
For a client in Finsbury Park, North London, our sister company Cavendish deVere were tasked with fitting a stunning handmade jute herringbone runner. The staircase was no small challenge — a mix of platforms and winding treads that needed precise templating to get every curve and corner just right.
The Cavendish deVere team templated the stairs on site and brought those templates back to our Wimbledon workshop, where the real craft began. Each section of the runner was carefully cut to size and shape to match the winder steps perfectly. The edges were then professionally whipped to create a clean, durable finish that complemented the natural jute texture beautifully.
Once prepared, the finished runner made its way back to Finsbury Park for fitting. The team installed it over double-stick underlay, using the Durafit method — ensuring a secure, long-lasting hold while maintaining that soft, comfortable feel underfoot.
The result? A warm, textured herringbone staircase that looks effortlessly elegant and feels even better to walk on. The customer absolutely loved it — and we couldn’t be happier with how it turned out.
Another lovely collaboration between Cavendish deVere, who make and fit hand-made jute stair runners in London and our Wimbledon workshop — where craftsmanship and London homes meet perfectly.
